I joined the Wright lab in September 2016. In my previous work in the laboratory of Dr. Michael Tyers, I investigated the genetic determinants of cell size control in various species (S. cerevisiae, C. albicans, M. musculus, and H. sapiens) and the interplay between size genetics and the environment.
One of the difficulties of work with natural products is the difficulty in obtaining material from often rare or difficult to culture species which may or may not express the required genes under the conditions of investigation. My work entails expressing biosynthetic genes and pathways in the genetically tractable yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae and assaying the activity of their products.
