Venky received Masters in chemistry from Acharya Nagarjuna University, Andhra Pradesh, India in 2009. He obtained his PhD degree from New Chemistry Unit, Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research (JNCASR), Bangalore, India in 2015. Then, he joined the Wright lab in January, 2016.
Besides pursuit of inspired research, Venky enjoys playing badminton and cricket, cooking and watching movies in his spare time.
Venky is the recipient of Michael G. DeGroote Fellowship Award to pursue his postdoctoral research at McMaster University, Canada in 2016. He has been awarded the prestigious Gandhian Young Technological Innovation Award from National Innovation Foundation, India in association with Biotechnology Industry Research Assistance Council (BIRAC), Department of Science and Technology, Government of India, in 2015.
Venky's research interests include antimicrobial resistance, discovery & development of novel antimicrobials using rationalized chemical and synthetic biology strategies; and understanding the role of bacterial infections in the disease progression of autoimmune diseases. Currently, he is working on discovery of novel elfamycin antibiotics.
