I am an undergraduate student pursuing a Bachelor of Health Sciences with specialization in Biomedical Discovery and Commercialization.
The rising trend of antibiotic resistance is becoming a challenge for the health care industry. The rate of resistance often exceeds the rate of antibiotic discovery. Frequent re-isolation of known antibiotics delays the discovery process. Dereplication allows us to identify novel compounds so we can selectively target them for use in possible therapeutics. I am currently working with Georgina Cox on dereplicating gram-positive bioactives from the Wright Actinomycetes Collection.
