Shaili is a fourth year undergraduate in the Biomedical Discovery & Commercialization (BDC) program that joined the lab in May 2017. She is the President of BDC Society and Vice President of the McMaster Lyricism and Hip-Hop Club. Outside of school, Shaili loves writing poetry, songs, and producing her own music. She is an active advocate for women, POC, and LGBTQ rights and hopes to create social change through her music. Her mantra is: "If you toss me the microphone, I'll educate the crowd, if you toss me the micropipette, I'll find a cure".
For her thesis project, Shaili is investigating, extracting, and isolating a compound that has shown to have antifungal properties in synergy with caspofungin. Her second project involves elucidating the mechanism of specific genes associated with rifamycin resistance in Streptomyces species using CRISPR to conduct gene knock-outs.
