Antibiotic resistance has now been acknowledged as an ever increasing global health threat. The severity of the situation recently spurred a high-level meeting on antimicrobial resistance by the general assembly of the United Nations. As a post-doctoral fellow in the Wright lab, I work towards understanding and combating antibiotic resistance in pathogenic bacteria. I have been a member of the lab for four years, working at the interface of microbiology, biochemistry, structural biology and drug discovery. I obtained my Ph.D. in Biochemistry & Microbiology from the University of Leeds, United Kingdom where I focused on elucidating the structure and mechanism of action of a clinically prevalent antibiotic resistance protein.
My research involves elucidation of the molecular mechanisms underlying antibiotic resistance. This knowledge can be harnessed to subsequently develop orthogonal approaches toward combating antibiotic resistance.
